Dishwasher Not Working? Try These Checks First

A few quick checks can often explain why a dishwasher isn't draining, washing properly, or starting — before you need to book an engineer.

4 Things To Check Yourself First

These simple checks take a couple of minutes and could save you a call-out — or help our engineer diagnose the fault faster if you do book a repair.

1

Clear The Filter Basket

The filter at the bottom of the dishwasher tub catches food debris and needs emptying regularly. A blocked filter is one of the most common causes of poor washing or draining.

2

Check The Spray Arms Aren't Blocked

Spin the upper and lower spray arms by hand to make sure they move freely, and check tall plates or pans aren't blocking them from rotating.

3

Check The Door Seal

Trapped food or debris on the rubber door seal is a common cause of leaks underneath the machine. Wipe the seal clean and check for any visible damage.

4

Check The Door Is Fully Closed

Most dishwashers won't start a cycle unless the door is closed and latched properly — make sure nothing is obstructing it.

Still not working after these checks? That's completely normal — it just means the fault needs a proper diagnosis. Give us a call with the brand, model and what you've already tried.
